biblical self-love

Updated: Jan 21, 2022

What does biblical self love look like?

Well firstly we need to establish what secular self love is...

The world says, "you are strong. You are capable. You don't need anyone else. Everything you've done is all because of your own strength. Don't rely on anyone else. You are perfect as you are."

The world encourages you to rely on yourself, and that you alone are capable.

What does the Bible say about this though?

God wants us to rely on HIM. We are sinful creatures. We deserve death. We are so dang far from perfect. We are weak. We mess up daily. Anything we've accomplished came from God, because He says all good things come from Him. We are not capable. We are failures.

I'm sure you're thinking, "well thanks for the pep talk"

Haha I know that was pretty bold and wasn't uplifting. BUT I have good news...

Jesus is perfect. Jesus paid the price for us. Jesus is perfect, and through Him we are forgiven. Because He is strong, we can be strong IN HIM. He never fails us. God gave us abilities and strengths to meet our goals, and He will provide the strength. We aren't capable, but our Savior is!

God sees our failures and our mess and He loves us despite it. He sees us as beautiful, strong in Him, warriors for Him. The God of the universe loves YOU. He knit you together in your mother's womb.

You have a purpose, and you are strong. The strength doesn't lie in your own capabilities though, it's in our Heavenly Father.

I dare you to stop building yourself up the secular way. Acknowledge your faults, but also understand the One who loves you despite them, and THROUGH Him you are so strong, and so capable.
