Human language is the most commonly used thing in our society today. We use it in many different ways ranging from the newspaper that shows up in one's mailbox every Sunday to the expression of emotions when dealing with the pain of losing a loved one. There are six main purposes of human language including communication, culture, expression, individuality, comprehension and reading.
The two most common methods of human language that we use today are communication and comprehension. From talking on a cell phone to reading the news, communication is found in many different forms. We need a common language to best communicate and comprehend what is being said. Without being able to understand what a word means; we would not be able to learn something as easily as we can with a common language.
Two other purposes of human language are individuality and expression. These subjects are very similar but slightly different. A person may express themself by what they wear and what they say. For example, if one was grieving over the passing of their recently deceased grandmother, they may cry often and tell others about the influence that their grandmother had on their life. By talking about their memories of their grandmother, they can relieve some of their hurt and find closure. If the person that this individual was talking to did not speak the same language, it may be hard for them to comfort the individual with their words. We also use human language to express ourselves through individuality. We all have different accents with different tones and sounds to our voices. This helps to make each of us unique and understand who a person is just by hearing their voice.
The last two purposes of human language are reading and culture. Without a common language we would not be able to read important words such as on a page of paper, our devices, or words on a road sign for example. We also use language to separate cultures and have an extra opportunity to either separate us or bring us together.
Overall, human language is an extremely important part of society today. We most commonly use it for communication, but this could very well change in the future. Not only is human language a very important aspect of life but it also helps both large and small groups of people connect.
