Jesus didn't follow along and do what everyone else was doing. He turned the other way and people started following Him instead.
think of sheep. one sheep is walking across a field when suddenly it drops. it fell off a cliff. the rest of the herd of sheep follow it right off the cliff. they didn't think for themselves or wonder "where did he go?". they simply followed him. towards the back of the herd there was one sheep that realized what was going on. before reaching the end of the cliff He paused for a moment and then turned left, steering clear of the cliff! by doing this, not only did Ge save His own life, but He also saved the rest of the sheep behind Him (they follow whoever is in front).
in case you didn't get it, the first sheep is like satan. he tricks us and leads us the wrong way, to death. Jesus, on the other hand, turns us around and leads us to safety, to eternal life!
try to be like Him and change the environment today. if someone is saying hurtful things about someone else, stop the conversation, let them know that what they said was hurtful, and then change the topic! if someone is acting inappropriately, stop them, tell them (kindly) that what they are doing is not right, and do something else!
